Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge of ethics as a social science. Orientation in theoretical conception of ethics and in historical development of ethic courses. Understanding of the importance of social-ethic thinking in the area of economy. Ability to aplicate of knowledge into firm praxis, search of contact points. The aim is a versatile personality cultivation leading to full competency readiness to life. The aim is to gain a new skill thinking about the economic principles of business ethics dimension view.
Knowledge of ethic principles and their connections with management. Understanding of human change in personality, firm culture and strategy. Ability to apply ethical principles and categories in both professional and personal life. Accentuating the benefits of ethics for the cultivation of both personal and corporate environments and business practices in general. The course culminates in a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between ethics, economics and business.
The course is suitable for students who want to concentrate on the area of ​​businessin the future, private business or corporate life course to gain real knowledge of the business environment and to be ready for the ills of society, to obtain an ability to face them with trying to substantive improvement as well.

Prerequisites

The subject follows to knowledge gained in the course of secondary education in subject Foundantions of Social Sciences or Civics, therefore no other technical or social science information is needed, knowledge of basic of law, psychology, sociology, philosophy, sociology or philosophy, interest in ethic topics, recognising and knowledge of society.

Co-requisites

Knowledge of economical theories, understanding of market workings and workings of market mechanisms, orientation in economic courses in history and nowadays, personalities of world and Czech economy, firm culture and strategy, styles of direction, the civil service, socio-psychological manager's characteristics, team management, social communication, direction of meetings, advertisiment and manipulation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Explanation is passed by word-teaching method in the form of lectures accompanied by rich presentation material. Every student prepare one's presentation on the chosen topic from the area of ethics which describe chosen topis from the area of ethics in praxis.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students show their orientation in theoretical and applied ethics in test from theoretical part. They also prepare the seminar work presentation of the chosen topic from ethics where students describe chosen ethics problem. Summary evaluation of students consists of testing student's theoretical knowledge of ethics (60%) and seminar work (prezentation) skills where students show ability to desribe and analyse problem of the area of theoretical or applied ethics (40%).

1. Introduction to ethics. Importance of ethics. The concept and benefits of ethics. Management and business ethics. Ethics and morality.
2. The basic elements of ethical theories. Traditional and modern concept. History of ethics. Man and ethics.
3. Historical-developmental changes of ethics, important ethical concepts and personalities, aim for present.
4. Ethics in Modern Ages. Relativism, material ethical values, positivism, a new concept of ethics. Contemporary ethical discourses.
5. Transformation of ethics into business. Economic pragmatism, utilitarism, liberalism and neoliberalism.
6. Introduction into ethics of management. Ethics of direction and accountability. Ethical decision-making process.
7. Relation between ethics and business. Personal morality and corporate ethics, ethical-professional personality character.
8. Manager and ethics - perspectives and changes. Development of a manager personality. Dichotomy in managerial praxis.
9. Implementation of ethics, the nature and importance. Moral development of company. Public relations.
10. Integrating of ethics into the corporate culture. The role of ethics in company development strategy. Social firm responsibility.
11. Ethics in business enterprise management. Ethics of labor relations in the company. Moral culture of contemporary businessman.
12. Ethical codex, examples. Ethical auditing of a firm. Non-ethical examples in behaviour, prevention and its solution.
13. Self-assessment exercise in the area of ethics and management. Ethical-social katechism.
