Learning outcomes of the course unit

• Introduction to structural engineering.
• Students will learn the terminology, gain knowledge of basic design principles.
• Overview of the basic terminology structures and their classification.
• Introduction to the basic approach to designing buildings.
• Understand the main load-bearing structures and structural systems of the building.
• Familiarization with the construction phase and documentation requirements of buildings
• Students will learn to read drawings of buildings and gain the basic technical plotting and thinking.

Prerequisites

Written and graphic level of expression, respect for the most basic medical terminology, basic material knowledge, basic general engineering knowledge, logical thinking.

Co-requisites

Terminology, loading of buildings, material characteristics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The lectures are a lecturing teachers, but also representatives of civil engineering practice. In practice the solution is simple construction project in the form of project documentation house in the degree of planning permission. Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Altogether it is necessary to actively participate the practices, with parallel consultations and submissions of the assigned work (drawings) according to the schedule of practices, which are then required to be handed in together within the credit week in a prescribed manner. To pass the final mark, it is necessary to meet all requirements of exercise - and passing the final test.
