Technology of Constructions 2

FAST-BW004Acad. year: 2018/2019

The subject follows on from Technology of Constructions 1 and covers the area of building processes, linked with the erection of constructions, interior and finishing work.
Principles of the manufacturing, transportation and storage of prefabricated components. Preparedness of the construction site for assembly. Procedures used in the assembly of reinforced concrete and steel structures. Issues connected with interior and finishing processes, principles governing their performance, sequence of activities, preparedness for construction at the place of work, mutual relationships and their coordination. Quality and safety requirements, and requirements with regard to the environment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire knowledge about the preparation and execution of selected construction sub-processes. They will be able to draft project documentation for construction sub-processes connected with basic upper structures, as well as interior and finishing work, and will be trained in assessing preparedness for construction using these processes. Students will learn about the mechanical equipment and mechanisation involved in such processes, and basic occupational safety rules. The monitored outputs of the course consist of prepared technical documentation for selected studied construction sub-processes.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of building design principles.

Co-requisites

Extending knowledge in field of building construction designing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods include field trips to already implemented structures (primarily building structures), with the focus on assembly and interior/finishing work. The tuition also involves the drafting of technical designs for selected construction sub-processes and their presentation during the educational process.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The conditions for course completion are: obligatory seminar attendance, and successfully completed assignments regarding technical documentation concerning construction sub-processes, these assignments being produced to obtain the credit for the subject. The subject is tested by an exam.

Course curriculum

1. Assembly processes. Assembly of buildings from prefabricated reinforced concrete components. Principles of the production, transportation and storage of prefabricated components. Assembly procedures.
2. Assembly of steel structures. Production of structural elements, principles of haulage and storage. Optimisation of assembly methods and procedures.
3. Introduction to issues concerned with interior and finishing processes. Sequence of individual processes, their relationships and coordination.
4. Principles of constructing dividing walls using masonry or glass blocks, or assembled segments/ skeletons.

Aims

The course objective is to teach the students to make a technological regulation of the selected partial construction processes of rough construction and finishing works and to be able to use these elaborated documents in practice for the construction execution.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.
