Specialized Project (K-GTN)

Complex specialized geotechnical project, design and realization of structures in complicated geotechnical conditions, the choice of optimum technological process.
Special problems of geotechnical project solution, build and work stages, identification of factors effecting structure-media interaction, conception of solving, alternatives, investigation of definitive state.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

During the course a student learns to use knowledge obtained in previous geotechnical subjects for solution of specific tasks of building practice. Student learn to solve practical problems in the field of geotechnical engineering, including the using of professional literature, codes, generation of computer models, analyzing the results and conclusions.


Types of foundation soils, properties of soils, limit states theory, foundation structures, underground structures, earth structures, basic principles of structural mechanics, theory of strength and elasticity, structure design.


New technologies of special foundation methods and underground structures, environmental geotechnics, computational methods in geotechnical engineering.

Recommended optional programme components

Attendance at professional seminars organized by the Institute of Geotechnics. Participation in workshops organized by prominent geotechnical firms.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The presented topic is practiced on individual seminar project including the parts individually discussed. Part of the exercise takes place in a classroom PC - application software for the solution of the problem. Part of the course is the presentation of the project.
Teaching includes optional lectures, field trips and workshops held currently in various projects.
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Conditions of credit is to develope an individual specialized project and satisfied attendance.
