Aims

Introduction into problems of corroded buildings especially with regard to causes of failures, types of corrosive surroundings, to selection of adequate building materials. The lectures are oriented especially to explanation of chemical, microstructural and mechanical changes during corrosion, corrosion of reinforced concrete initiated by the effect of aggressive surroundings and to classification of materials according to durability. There are in detail discussed the corrosion of concrete, metals and building materials by liquid and gaseous media, the types of corroding water to reinforced structures and the influence of solid materials, mineral oils, fats etc. These information is followed by description of surface treatments improving the resistance of building structures against aggressive affects and the concrete impregnation by plastics, spray application of concrete by macromolecular substances, painting materials based on water glass etc. In conclusion the subject concerns the prognosis of building materials durability and the methods of building materials durability determination with possibility of their protection. Fundamentals of the theory of concrete rehabilitation.
