Personal, Business and Industrial Law

The course focuses on areas relating to civil law, commercial law and labour law, providing an insight into its general terminology. Also dealt with are the following topics: Participants of legal relations and their representation. Property right. Liability for damages, unjust enrichment. Obligations. Inheritance. The definition of a businessman/businesswoman and a business activity. Trading company and co-operative. Employment. Rights and duties of an employee and an employer.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with law terminology and regulations and will be capable of reading of the law.
Students will be able to consider the rights or liabilities with respect to their creation, change, extinction and security, as well as the running of the limitation period, to evaluate the situation and take necessary measures.
Students will be made familiar with contract law discovering the advantages and disadvantages of the contractual agreements. They will have a grasp of the regulations governing the setting-up, classification and liquidation of corporations, companies and co-operatives. Also discussed will be the possibilities of employment contracts and the rights of employees and employers.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have general knowledge of law at secondary school level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching takes the form of two-hour lectures. The lecture includes a presentation of the basic concepts and principles and illustrative examples.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

A course-unit credit is not awarded for this course.
The exam has a written form. It is a test with questions. The classification is in accordance with the rules of the Faculty of Business and Management.

-Civil substantive law - terminology, principles, participants in civil-law relations and their representation.
-Real rights - ownership, joint ownership, property rights to things foreign
- Inheritance Law
- Contractual law - contracts, torts liabilities, obligations or other legal reason
- Business Corporation - terminology, business register
-Trading companies and co-operatives, liquidation.
-Rules and regulations under the contract governed by the Commercial law.
-Labour law - terminology, participants in labour-law relations and their representation.
-Employment.
-Working time regulations, period of rest, overtime, holiday entitlement, liability of an employer and an employee for damage caused.
-Rights and duties of an employee and an employer.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to provide students with a general introduction to and explanation of the disciplines relating to the civil law with an emphasis on business activities. Students will be made familiar with the related terminology and regulations governing this area. They will also learn how to apply the terminology and regulations in relevant practice. For example, they will be able to consider the object of a contract, as well as possible consequences of a legal act.

Attendance at lectures is not compulsory. The course includes lectures only; there are no seminars.
