Protection of electrical Power Equipment

FEKT-BOJZAcad. year: 2018/2019

Electrical power systems protection at failure state. Line, busbar, transformer, generator and motor protection. Digital protection integrated systems.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

6

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students pass out the course are able to:
- give details of fundamental types of protection relays and its basic characteristics
- explain the principles of main types protection relays
- calculate short circuit situations in the power network
- design of setting overcurrent protection of small systems
- describe automatic reclosing

Prerequisites

The knowledge of the course of Distribution of Electric Energy is required. Student has ability to calculate the three-phase initial short-circuit current in the radial power system.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods include lectures, computer laboratories and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system. Students have to write a single project/assignment during the course.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course is evaluated by student’s activity in the lessons, individual work and it is finished by exam valuation. The exam has practical and theoretical parts.
Students can obtain:
up to 40 points from the tutorial lessons (tests, individual work and protocols from laboratory exercise)
up to 60 points from the exam (30 points practical part and 30 points theoretical part)
Detailed requirements for completion of the course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated every year.

Course curriculum

1. Electrical power systems failure state. Sorting of protection (relay, static, digital).
2. Symmetrical and unsymmetrical short circuit fault calculation.
3. Voltage and current transformer.
4. Line protections. Fuses and circuit breakers.
5. Overcurrent relays. Current and time setting.
6. Distance protections. Characteristics and setting.
7. Distance protections supplemental equipment. Wrong measuring cause.
8. Comparative protections. Comparative protection ties.
9. Auto - reclosing automatics. Protection cooperation near auto reclosing.
