Ecology in Healthcare

The course deals with the basic laws of ecology, the environment and human ekotoxikology and exposure to noise, vibration, electrostatic, magnetic and electromagnetic fields, radioecology, light, heat. Attention is paid to environmental monitoring and maximum concentrations and doses, protection from the harmful effects of chemical and physical fields. Discussed the working environment hygiene and safety in health care, integrated rescue system, waste from medical facilities and assessing the impact on the environment.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Graduate of this course is able to:
- explain the basic laws of ecology,
- enumerate the parameters of the biological needs of human being and environment,
- describe the parameters of noise, vibration and ultrasound in the environment and describe their effects on humans,
- explain the origin of electrostatic and magnetic fields of the Earth,
- describe the interaction of electromagnetic fields and radiation with biological structures,
- interpret hygienic limits physical fields in the environment,
- explain the principle of environmental audits and assessments of environmental impact,
- describe the integrated emergency system
- discuss the principles of hazardous waste management.
The acquired knowledge significantly affect the behavior of technicians in the environment and contribute to their adequate qualifications in health facilities.
Student who writes this article should be able to:
- explain the basic principles of physical fields,
- explain the basics of physical chemistry,
- apply the basic principles and laws of electrotechnology,
- interpret the basic units of physical quantities,
- the basic principles of human biology and physiology.
In general, knowledge is required on the secondary school level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. Teaching methods include lectures and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning systems.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Up to 40 points for lab - student gets points for 9 of the Protocol, and 1 thematic project,
up to 50 points for the written part of the exam,
10 points for the oral exam.
To successfully pass exam, you must obtain the written at least 10 points.
Exam focuses on the verification of basic knowledge of the principles of ecology, the interaction of physical fields with biological structures including health limits, work hygiene and waste management in health care.

The aim of the course is to provide students with information on basic concepts and principles of ecology, the characteristics of the human environment, the technical aspects of environmental, monitoring of basic parameters of the environment. A major focus is the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances and doses fields working environment, knowledge of information about the health status of the population and the existence of the Integrated Rescue System, waste from medical facilities.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Laboratory is compulsory, properly excused absences laboratory exercises can be in agreement with the substitute teacher.
