Course detail

Laboratory classes of of Environmental Sampling

FCH-BCO_ZVE_PAcad. year: 2018/2019

The content of the subject is the realization of practical sampling of all matrices in the environment. Students will be familiar with the entire sampling process; from the preparation of samplers and samplers, through own field sampling to finishing the samples taken before their own analysis. In addition to classical water and soil sampling, some types of passive samplers will also be used for sampling.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

To gain knowledges of the correct processing of standard operating procedures for sampling. To gain practical experiences of environmental matrices sampling; especially water, sediment, soil, air matrices. The processing of sampling protocols.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the subject of Environmental sampling.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of specialized lab - 4 teaching hours per week. Because of the time consuming (excursions to the theme, etc.), practical exercises are scheduled once every 14 days. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

During the practical exercises the students' knowledge will be checked in the form of control questions from the teacher. Protocols for individual exercises will then be developed. Protocols will be reviewed. Overall assessment will take into account the student's access during the exercise and also the quality of the elaboration of partial protocols.

Course curriculum

1. Soil sampling
2. Sampling of surface water (standing, running water)
3. Sampling using passive samplers for water I.
4. Sampling using passive samplers for water II.
5. Use of mobile analytics for soil analysis.
6. Sampling using passive samplers for pollutants in the air.

Work placements

Not applicable.

Aims

The aim of the course is learning to work up a standard operating procedure for sampling of various environmental matrices, such as water, soil, air. To familiarize practically with the whole procedure of the selection of appropriate samplers for environmental matrices sampling.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Before each practitioner, student knowledge will be verified through oral discussion. Requirements for each practice will be published on e-learning.
