Macromolecular Chemistry

The introduction into macromolecular chemistry. Position of macromolecular chemistry among polymer sciences. Structure and nomenclature of polymers. Principle definitions and relations, conditions for macromolecules formation. Molecular weight and distribution of macromolecules. Physical states and molecular structure of polymers. Polycondensation and polyadition reactions. Radical and ionic chain polymerizations. Coordination polymerization. Reactions on polymers. An overview of important industrial polymers, their properties and applications. Natural, inorganic, and special polymers. Rheological properties and processing of polymers.

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, seminars - 1 teaching hour per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Aims

The goal of the lecture “Macromolecular Chemistry” is to make students familiar with fundamentals of this science, with its position and relationships in frames of the system of scientific fields relating to. It supplies a base knowledge about mechanisms of polymers formation, their syntheses, properties, and applications.
