Sport Medicine

Physical education medicine (hereinafter referred to as PE) is a clinical discipline whose basic subject is the physical and sports activity of a person in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Physical education medicine is conceived as an interdisciplinary field following the preparatory morphological subjects of the first year. The interdisciplinary content of the field enables to combine the knowledge of various clinical specializations into common pragmatic outcomes, which introduces students to the application issues of technical subjects. Graduates will get an idea of ​​the links between physical activities and the health status of an individual, knowledge of the possibilities of positive and negative influence on human health through physical activities as well as medical-technological procedures. This knowledge is essential for understanding the links between clinical and preclinical medical disciplines and the links between medical sciences and sporting activities - which ultimately lead to a nation's health.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Sports medicine in the interdisciplinary concept opens the students the possibilities of understanding the relationships and links of medical science, physical activity and current technical and technological possibilities.
The course provides students with knowledge about causes, prevention and pre-medical examination of injuries in sport and providing first aid.
Student will be able to:
- explain the basics of first aid and resuscitation,
- explain the importance of physical activities for health,
- describe the adaptation of organs and systems to regular exercise load,
- explain the issue of civilization diseases, enumerate civilization diseases,
- describe the fundamentals of imaging methods of the musculoskeletal system,
- explain the issue of doping,
- describe the load on the organism in various types of physical activities.
The written exam verifies that the student is able to:
- explain basic knowledge and concepts of sports medicine and their relationships,
- demonstrate knowledge of first aid and resuscitation,
- describe the basic types of sports injuries,
- describe imaging methods of the musculoskeletal system,
- enumerate civilization diseases, their causes and possible ways of delaying their onset,
- orientation in doping and its control
- describe the physiological and movement load of any sport
- explain the importance of regeneration and types of therapies in sport
- describe the adaptation of the organism to regular physical activities.

12. Pharmacotherapy of musculoskeletal system
13. Regeneration and recondition of organism
14. Kinesiotherapy - compensatory exercise, stretching
15. Physical therapy in rehabilitation
16. Balneotherapy, wellness
17. Doping, anti-doping (code, prohibited substances, sampling, agenda)
18. Medical provision of sports events
19. Athlete nutrition, diet and dietary supplements
20.-21. Pharmacotherapy and sport, Sport and civilization diseases
22.-23. In-door and Out-door sports activities from the doctor's point of view
24.-25. Correct management of strength and endurance training

Aims

Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the field that deals with the influence of physical activity on human health, its adaptation to regular physical stress and positive and possible negative consequences resulting from this activity.
