Architecture and Protection of Landscape

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The subject develops the ability of the doctoral student to work in the landscape. The students will gain knowledge of the theory and practice of protecting our country. They will acquire the knowledge of the existing methodology for evaluating the landscape character. The students will learn to evaluate the landscape character and justify their assessment
The output is individually assigned semester work dealing with selected landscape aspects related to the own assignment of doctoral thesis.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of nature and landscape protection in Czech Republic (Slovak Republic), knowing problems with landscape ecological stability area systems, ability to recognize basic tree species existing in the country, knowledge of historical evolution of our country. Ability to work individually in the field.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Individual study of the selected landscape aspects related to the own assignment of doctoral thesis will be evaluated and discussed. The related aspects of the topic will also be discussed.

Course curriculum

The aim of the subject is to acquire knowledge in the creation of landscape and integration of architectural works into the surrounding landscape.
The subject develops the ability of the doctoral student to work in the landscape. Thematic pillars:
- the theory and practice of protecting our country
- methodologies for assessing landscape character.
- assessment of landscape character including justification

Aims

Acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge for protection of our country. In the first place it teaches to evaluate the scenery and to justify his evaluation. The subject develops ability of the student to work considerately in the nature. Knowledge of currently existing methods to evaluate scenery.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Presence in lessons is not mandatory and is not checked. It is substituted by individual self-study of recommended literature. Own country mapping and evaluation of its scenery is an implicit part of the teaching and it is not possible to substitute it. The progress of works during mapping country is controlled during the teaching.
