The total extent of the professional experience is 200 hours. Before commencing the experience a contract on professional experience must be concluded with the entity in which they will work.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

In professional experience the student has the chance to verify their theoretical knowledge gained in by solving specific assignments in enterprises. On completion of the experience there will be a linking of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The student gains practical skills that will help them to succeed in the jobs market.

Prerequisites

The experience is linked to all the studied specialised courses (especially in the fields of tax, accounting, law and economics).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Professional experience, i.e. verifying and deepening in practice knowledge and skills gained in studies. Updating knowledge and becoming acquainted with methods of work in non-educational institutions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students work on an individually assigned project within the financial department of an enterprise. Part of the project is the strategic analysis of the enterprise, including analysis of economic results and identifying strengths and weaknesses of the financial management of the enterprise. The assigned project is clarified at a meeting with the guarantor of the experience with the student (for information on the meeting see course update).
At the same time on the basis of the experience the student produces a report. This report also includes an appraisal by the head of the economic department of the entity in which the student had their experience (this assessment is through a standardised form).
The project and the report are submitted by the student through the e-learning system in IS BUT.
The course is concluded with a credit, which is awarded for the submission of a project of the requisite quality and a report (including the assessment by the head of the department).

Course curriculum

Students undertake the work experience after completing the summer semester of the first year of study. The experience can be undertaken during the summer holidays, or during the winter and summer semesters of the second year of study on days when there is no teaching. The course must be completed no later than by the end of the tenth week of teaching in the summer semester of the second year of study (so-called credit week).

Aims

The course objective is to verify in practice knowledge gained in their studies, to verify the problem-solving skills in the selected area of financial management, propose appropriate solutions and communicate as part of a working team.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The guarantor of the experience can inspect the work really done at the relevant entity.
