Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students gain knowledge of diagnostics and vehicle testing for practical activities concerning operation, maintenance and reparation of vehicles in context with relevant legal regulations

Knowledge of motor vehicle construction required

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To achieve credit it is conditional to take part in the seminars, successfully accomplish control tests and successfully elaborate semestral work. The exam will have written and oral part. To be admitted to oral part, students have to complete the written part first.

Course curriculum

Course curriculum:
1. Basics of technical diagnostics and testing, basic terms and definitions, principles, terminology, regulations and standards for motor vehicles
2. Types and conditions of testing implementation, measuring and evaluating data
3. Weight parameters and power output characteristics of vehicles, economy
4. Brake testing
5. Diagnostics and testing of springing, springs, damper, inner and outer vehicle noise
6. Problems of vehicle controllability testing, directional stability
7. Transmission systems, types of testing rooms
8. Control systems, geometry of wheel control and suspension, wheel testing
9. Lifetime period testing of vehicles, axles and bodywork, pasive safety testing
10. General principles of engine diagnostics, diagnostics of ignition engines
11. Diagnostics of ignition engines, EOBD
12. Elementary equipment of specialized workplaces, checking and evaluating technical state of the vehicle during the State Technical Control, application of diagnostics in vehicle operation and maintenance
13. Technical qualification authorisation of the vehicle, homologation testing, bump testing

Aims

The aim of this subject is to prepare specialists in leading positions on various levels for decision-making activities in the field of automobile technology, mainly its operation, maintenance and repair, which are directly related to vehicle testing.
