Psychology and Sociology in Traffic

Subject is aimed at knowledge and usage of psychological aspects in traffic.
Subject is concerned with basic issues of psychology and matter of investigation.
Subject is oriented at personality from the point of view of normality and pathology and from the point of view of human in context of social situations applied in traffic.
Subject deals with selected aspects of concentration, perception, influence, emotions and behaviour in transport situations. Further, the subject is aimed at reactions of human psyche in traumatic situation, origin of PTSP (post traumatic stress disorder) including victims and their victimization.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Expert competency:
Knowledge aimed at cognizance of functions of human psyche, especially in critical situations, demonstrating causes of behaviour in traumatic situations.
Competency of self-knowledge and communication in difficult situations, knowledge aimed at consequences of traumatic situations on human psyche including prevention.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions of graded course-unit credit:
Participation in seminars, compliance of assigned tasks, practically oriented excursion into selected institution.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction. Human Factor in traffic, importance of cognizance of human psyche and behaviour. Psychology as behaviour science.
2. Function of human psyche, observance, etc. Perception, disorders, illusions and deceptions.
3. Personality, basic knowledge of temperament, effect on behaviour in traffic situation.
4. Aggression and aggressiveness, conflicts, stress, stressors, mechanisms of defence.
5. Behaviour in throng, influence of emotions, behaviour and social and psychological aspects of behaviour in traffic.
6. Altruism and its importance, especially in traffic.
7. Driver and age specifics.
8. Psychosomatic aspects in traffic, illness, intoxication.
9. Importance of self-knowledge.
10. Communication in difficult situations, importance of nonverbal communication, mediation as a manner of problems’ resolutions.
11. Traffic accident as a traumatic situation, possible effects and manifestations on psyche.
12. Post traumatic stress disorder.
13. Victims of traffic accidents and their victimization.
