Specialization: Movement Activities for Seniors

The course will prepare the students in such a way that they will gain a comprehensive overview of the possible movement activities available for seniors, and based on previously-gained knowledge and skills, they will be able to bring people of senior age closer to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain an overview of the possible movement activities available for senior citizens, learn the importance of movement activities for the formation of the optimum physical and psychological development of seniors within the contexts of boosting health, increasing endurance and prolongation of their active way of life. They will be acquainted with the issues involved in the organization, management and leadership of movement activities for seniors.

Prerequisites

Practically applicable knowledge and skills from the taught physical training subjects within the framework of the bachelor's course.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit awarding:
passing of two continuous test 20 points (6th and 9th week). Working out of the term work 20 points. Defence of the term work 10 points. Passing the final exam 50 points. Total - maximum 100 points. Classification scale: Grade, point assessment A 100 - 90 B 89 - 80 C 79 - 70 D 69 - 60 E 59 - 50 F 49 - 0
Attendance at the lectures and seminars.
Accomplishment of four continuous semestr works.
Active part at the practical lessons with seniors (20 hrs).

Form of the examination and the final classification of the subject:
Submission of a healthy lifestyle programme for a specific senior (30 points), written exam (25 points) and oral exam (45 points).

- Ensuring stability and flexibility (coordination).
- Combining aerobic and strength-building exercises.
- Movement activities in the daily regime of seniors.
- Safety of seniors during exercise.
- Adaptation of the movement regime of seniors to their current state of health.

- Practical tuition - suitable kinds of movement activities according to an individual's state of health; contents of healthy lifestyle programmes for seniors.

Aims

The aim of the course is also to learn to organize and lead programmes for seniors at the level of a trainer - instructor.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance of lectures and practical lessons (bpth 90 %). Absence excused only if the medical confirmation is submitted.
