Managerial Psychology

The course focuses on relevant psychological knowledge necessary for efficient corporate management and increasing the efficiency of the company. Mastering and development of social and managerial as well as entrepreneurial skills are emphasized. Also dealt with is the practical application of acquired knowledge to management of individuals, teams and other organizational units.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire relevant psychological knowledge and skills as required for a manager and entrepreneur from the following fields regarding ability to work and competences:
- health ability and competences
- professional ability and competences
- methodical ability and competences
- social ability and competences

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles, problems and their solutions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance at the lecture is not obligatory. To obtain a classified credit it is necessary to prepare a seminar paper on a selected topic:

The range of the seminar work is at least 8 standard pages (1 standard page = 1 800 characters, symbols and spaces). Citations used according to ISO 690.
The structure of the seminar work is as follows:
  - introduction + theoretical knowledge (max. 1/3 work) from the Czech professional literature
  - analysis of selected foreign / research article / articles (second third of work) from the ScienceDirect database https://www.vutbr.cz/en/knihovny/eiz/seznam-databazi/science-direct
  - introducing the issue of the article - what is involved with, who created it, when ...
  - introducing interesting parts of the article
  - summary of knowledge from the article
  - a description of your chosen problem (real case - case report - see selected topics) + proposals for original solutions based on the first two parts of the thesis (final third of the thesis)
  - conclusion
  - list of used literature (quote)

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to the course.
Conception of the course. The enterprise as a social system. Categorizations of efficiency influencing factors. Formal and informal authority of a manager and entrepreneur. Substance and acquirement of power and influence.
2. Ability to work and competences of a manager and entrepreneur, their importance, connections and consequences. Methods of its recognition, preservation and development.
3. Health ability and competences of manager and entrepreneur, their importance, connections and consequences. Methods of its recognition, preservation and development.
4. Professional ability and competences of manager and entrepreneur, their importance, connections and consequences. Methods of its recognition, preservation and development.
5. Methodical ability and competences of manager and entrepreneur, their importance, connections and consequences. Methods of its recognition, preservation and development.
6. Social ability and competences of manager and entrepreneur, their importance, connections and consequences. Methods of its recognition, preservation and development.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with psychological knowledge and skills practically applicable in the economic activities of managers and entrepreneurs. The course enables students to acquire and develop specific managerial and entrepreneurial skills especially in the field of: social communication, recognition and influencing of people, self-cognition and own personal development.
