European Union and Business

The subject focuses mainly on the basic information in the following areas: historical development and the nature of the EU, the EU budget structure, financial relations of the Czech Republic and the EU budget, the differences in business in EU Member States, the EU subsidy policy.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will know the technical terminology relating to the functioning of the EU. They will acquire the necessary basic skills needed for studying economic disciplines.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of economic subjects obtained in one’s study to date.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course contains lectures that explain basic principles, problems and methodology of the discipline, and exercises that promote the practical knowledge of the subject presented in the lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit:
- Active participation in exercises will be controlled and assessed by the teacher
- Successful completion of case studies – max assessment 40 points, total number of points for awarding the course- minimum unit credit is 24 points.
Conditions for passing an exam: Knowledge of taught topics, emphasis is placed on mastering professional terminology.
Form of examination: Written – 3 questions (examples) with max 20 points.
Grading:
A : 100 – 90 points
B : 89 – 80 points
C : 79 – 70 points
D : 69 – 60 points
E : 59 – 50 points
F : 49 – 0 points

1. Historical development and nature of the EU.
2. The nature, functions, and structure of the EU budget.
3. The issue of the Single Market, European Monetary Union and selected policies in the economic sphere.
4. The financial relations of the Czech Republic and the EU budget.
5. Differences in business in the EU Member States.
6. The current stage of development of European economic integration and familiarization with the objectives for the next period.
7. Subsidy Policy.

Aims

Cílem předmětu je vybavit studenty základními znalostmi o ekonomice EU, které se týkají následujících základních oblastí:
- historický vývoj a podstata EU,
- podstata, funkce a struktura rozpočtu EU,
- problematiku jednotného trhu, Evropské menové unie a vybraných politik v ekonomické oblasti,
- finanční vztahy Ceské republiky a rozpočtu EU,
- rozdíly v podnikání v jednotlivých členských stétech EU,
- současný stupeň rozvoje evropské ekonomické integrace a seznámení s cíli pro další období,
- dotační politika EU.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is controlled. The reason of absence is considered by the teacher and he/she decides about the form of compensation. In case of excused absence from seminars, the teacher may in justified cases set a make-up condition, as a rule the elaboration of partial assignment.
