Studio I - Multimedia - summer

The core studio course - Multimedia - covers the new media disciplines and represents that form of fine art which use the artist's own body, photography, video, computers, or other electronic or analog media for the recording, transfer, storage, and mediation of images and sounds. The course includes the forms of performance, object art, virtual or physical installation - all focusing directly on the creative act which is an interdisciplinary expression in time and space.
Students will gain general knowledge in the divrse field of new media art; they will get to know selected technological, philosophical, and aesthetic problems of multimedia art practice and theory. They will be given tasks such as> field recordings, found footage, non-linear hypertext narrativity, performance in virtual environment, VJ-ing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

- solution of multimedia realisations, video-installation, video-statue, interactive work of art, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM realisations, internet presentations
- production of multimedia data applications such as encyclopedias
- research in the area of hyperstructures or non-linear story forms, computer games and new multimedia applications in the area of massmedia, the issue of a digital artwork

Theoretic and practical experience from the first completed semester of studies.

Aims

To use mainly the newest integrated technologies, telecommunication systems, robotics and computers as multiple mediating environments, objects and techniques for the formation of the new artistic expression.
To enhance the preparedness of students for the realisation of their presentations in the most complex form of interactive installations and environments which can be visited, influenced and changed by the viewer.
