The higher pre-intermediate course is intended to those students who either have gone through the first 20 units in New Opportunities Workbook or who are recommended this level by the teacher.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

At this phase, students will have revised the basic tenses, conditionals, verb patterns. They will have an oral presentation in front of the class, they will have written several short texts, and they will have practiced their knowledge by reading longer texts (adapted fiction).

The Higher Pre-Intermediate course is created either for those students who have absolved Pre-Intermediate Lower 1 and 2, or to those students who will have a corresponding score on

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Assessment consists of a non-letter grade and a letter grade. In order to obtain the non-letter grade, students have to submit all assignments and pass the tests writtent during the semester at an average of 70 or more%. For the final, letter grade, students have to pass the final, general test at a score of 50% and more.
Students will write 1 - 3 short assignments during the semester, including the potential rewrites recommened by the course teacher - these will not be classified.
Final test mapping the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary from the units we have covered during the semester plus the assigned reading.
Students who will not have handed in the written assignments (even though they passed the final test) will not be classified.
Students are entitled for one regular and two resit exam dates.

Aims

Students on the pre-intermediate level are introduced for the first time to most tenses, conditionals, etc, they learn general vocabulary which will enable they conversation on various topics. They are taught to understand easy authentic conversation or news. They are also taught to read longer texts written in English simplified to their level of knowledge of the language.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students are allowed two absences per semester. For all other absences, the student must have a note from his or her doctor.
