Urban and Regional Development

The subject "Urban and regional development" deals with the theoretical aspects of the development of settlements in new social conditions. The transition of the contemporary towns and regions, characterised by local division of labour, into consumption oriented towns and regions, is analysed in detail, as well as the premisses and conditions leading to a higher form, i.e. to the city and region of leasure. Analysed are the impacts of urban development on the city's individual functions, and on the space structure of the city and the surrounding suburban area. Special attention is paid to the changes and their impact on the civilised landscape of the beginning of the 3rd millenium.

Indispensable is the knowledge of the history of architecture, urban design and urban planning. A general overview (philosophy, history, politics, social aspects)is important.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Passing final examination is conditioned by submission of the assigned seminar work in due term and in required quality, after having passed with success the oral part of the examination.

Aims

The subject's aim is to extend the theoretical knowledge of the students of the doctor degree study by new information on urban development, connected with the new social conditions and with the Czech republic's joining the EU. Attention is paid to the changes and impacts on the civilised landscape of the beginning of the 3rd millennium. The objective is to analyse and define the process of transition of the city and region characterised by local division of labour and functions into a consumption oriented city and region and , subsequently, into a leisure oriented city and region.To the subject's objectives belongs also the analysis of the impact of urban development on the city's individual functions and space structure, including the suburban area.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Concept of seminar work, finished work. Obligatory is attendence of at least 80 % of seminars,20 % missed seminars need not to be made up for.
