Advanced data transmission technology
FEKT-NVDPAcad. year: 2015/2016
Data transmission systems (DTS). DTS position in the superior system. DTS reliability (system element characteristics, influence of operating conditions). Diagnostics of disturbances. Reliability measurement and estimation. Quality of DTS as a service system. Transmission security in DTS. Detection and correction codes in DTS (RS codes, RM codes, Ungerboeck codes, Turbocodes). Contemporary systems with protection codes. Techniques for reducing redundance in DTS.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will be informed in detail about the measuring the distribution characteristics of errors arising during data transmission through a real data channel. They will use these characteristics in the design of antierror protection of data transmission using protection coding.
The subject knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Requirements for completion of a course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every.
Language of instruction
The objective of the course is to teach students to recognize reliable activities of data transmission systems. Methods of data signal coding are studied in the first place. Major emphasis is laid on code protection against errors generated during the data signal transmission.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
