Course detail

Parametric Modeling and Visualization

FSI-ZM2Acad. year: 2014/2015

Students become familiar with the possibilities of advanced design data visualization using virtual reality and with advanced tools for creating and presenting 2D and 3D Technical Documentation. In the practical part of the course students become familiar with the Creo Parametric environment and its tools for tolerance, kinematic and dynamic analysis. Students will try to work in a virtual reality environment. Further, they become familiar with 3DVIA Composer software for creation of interactive technical documentation.
The course has been upgraded with the support of the OPVK project. Project "The Studio of digital sculpture and new media", reg. No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0278, is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the statebudget of the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain knowledge and experience with visualization of design data in virtual reality using Creo Parametric. They will be able to create advanced 3D models and assemblies, perform tolerance analysis, including a simple kinematic and dynamic analysis. Students will gain experience with use of 3DVIA Composer tools and with creation of interactive assembly instructions and presentation graphics.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge in area of CAD systems, knowledge of parametric modeling (Inventor, Catia, Rhinoceros).

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit is awarded on the following conditions: active participation in the seminars, creation of given model. Passing the final test during 6th week. Student has to prove knowledge of basic terms in area of virtual prototyping, computer graphics and digital technologies in the design process.

Aims

To familiarize students with the posibilities of advanced presentation using virtual reality and with advanced tools for creation of interactive technical documentation and presentation of outputs.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is recommended; attendance at practicals is obligatory and checked by the lecturer. Maximum of two excused absences without compensation are allowed. In case of longer absence, compensation of missed lessons depends on the instructions of course supervisor.
