Information technology and system analysis

Modern database systems, DBMS architecture and the role in information systems. Actual technologies for information systems design, n-tiers architecture. Life cycle and information system implementation. Process analysis and management. Modelling tools of the system analysis. The support of information technologies on particular levels of management. Economy of IS creation.
Practical education is focused on the exercising of analytic skills in the case of the suggestion of the information system of the solved subject including the basic implementation techniques.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will obtain ability to perform the data modeling analyzes with using standard diagrams and methods. They will also acquire the basic skills to perform process analysis and understand the kernel and importance of process management. After completing the course they will be able to work in all phases of design and implementation of information system. Graduates will understand the modern database technologies that are currently used at all levels of management. Graduates will gain the ability to use non-standard data warehousing and multi-criteria assessment of the information system in terms of technology, cost and efficiency.

Prerequisites

Basic software tools for data management and processing, basics of enterprise economics, basics of project management, methods of relational data models design.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures, practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at lectures is optional, but attendance at classes is compulsory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Active participation in the exercises - 20%. Individual project of analysis and design of a simple information system - 30 %. Test of theoretical knowledge in the field of data processing and analysis, and field of information technology systems - 50%.

Aims

To get general orientation in information technologies and possibilities of their use at firm’s management. To learn basic tools of system analysis. To acquire skills and ability to model reality during formation of information system.

6. Elements for data manipulation in SQL.
7. Advanced procedures for transaction processing.
