Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course is drawn up as the subsidiary to elaboration of a bachelor´s project.
Students acquire knowledge of compositions of steel and timber structures including of structural details and their static design.
Students acquire practical knowledge skills for design of structural elements and structures from timber and timber-based materials and their details.

Prerequisites

Mathematics, structural mechanics, elasticity, design of elements of steel structures, design of elements of timber structures, actions on structures.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Interpretation, individual practice of problems (individual project), consultations. Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Development of the individual bachelor´s project is the evaluation criterium for students.

Course curriculum

1. Overview of steel and timber structures disposition principles.
2. Project documentation of factual structure:
- technical report
- static design
- material specification
- drawing documentation
Overview of principles assembly of loading data and loading schemes. Basic details of a factual project solution. Consultations of factual project technical report problems.
3. Overview of the content of standards for creating of the project documentation and works documentation of steel and timber structures. Consultations of problems concerned with structure analysis of a factual example.
4. Consultations of problems of an industrial project static design.
5. Overview of the content of standards for project documentation and works documentation creating.
Overview of the project documentation of factual steel structure:
- drawing documentation
- material specification
- example of certifications
Project documentation of factual timber structure:
- drawing documentation
- material specification
- examples of certifications
Specification of basic details for individual projects. Consultations of individual project problems.
