Bachelor’s seminar (S-KDK)

FAST-BO52Acad. year: 2013/2014

The seminar is aimed at preliminary work and completion of bachelor’s project with concentration on metal and possibly timber structural problems. Special care will be taken particularly of material choice and usage, statical and structural design, rules of members, connections, joints and structural details dimensioning, performance of load-carrying structures with consideration of realization, inspections, possibly of reconstruction and rebuilding.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire more in-depth knowledge and skills in the areas of steel structures and the dimensioning of elements and connections. Students will be able to design structural details in connection with structural design. They will be able to produce a detailed and thorough design for a simple steel structure.

Prerequisites

Elements and connections of metal structures, elements and connections of timber structures, basis of structural mechanics.

Co-requisites

Extension of knowledge of structural mechanics; acquisition of knowledge regarding issues concerned with the modelling of building structures.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at practical classes is compulsory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

A precondition for successful completion of the subject is the production of a detailed and thorough project for a simple steel structure.

Course curriculum

1. Submission of bachelor’s project assignment, methods and techniques of project working-out.
2.-12. Study of literature, standard and technical documents, documentation of realized constructions, consultations.
13. Bachelor’s project completion.

Work placements
