French for Intermediate Students

This course deals with the following topics: understanding everyday phrases and the ability to talk about everyday problems, the use of past, present and future tenses. The use of phrases with the subjunctive mood and the use of reported speech. Attention is paid to the subjunctive and conditional sentences. This grammar is projected into topics such as daily news, works and topics related to work life. Finance and shopping.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student is able to understand the main topics in a text standardly produced provided the text covers daily topics and topics the student is acquainted with. It could be work, studies or leisure activities. Since the student is able to deal with standard situations, it shouldn´t be a problem to spend time in a French speaking environment. The student is able to produce texts whose content deals with daily issues or issues the student is acquainted with. The student is able to provide details on the topics and provide a more detailed description even when expressing abstract ideas. The student is able without major difficulties to speak about hypothetical situations. Student reaches level B1- according to EFR

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Grammar and vocabulary is practised in an ineractive way, with emphasis on conversation. Development of communication and listening skills using interactive audio-visual technologies.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To be able to get their credits, students need to attend vlase regulary (max. 3 absences/semester), do homework and actively participate in the lessons.

Mastering vocabulary to the extent of 1100 words, intermediate level of grammar.
Reading skills, translating texts with intermediate difficulty, writing skills about everyday topics.

4. Expressing desires and doubts. Complaining and making a complaint. Warning someone (positive and negative). Transportation means. Tourism, different types of tourism and tourists.
5. Speaking about work conditions. Comparative phrases, absolute superlative. Irregular comparative phrases. Different professions.
6. Expressing the intensity, assessing events, confirmation or negation of a hypothesis. Impersonal phrases. Vocabulary related to work. Working environment and women.
7. Identifying someone, expressing owe, reflexive phrases. Clothes.
8 Expressing compassion, speaking about familiar and unfamiliar things or events. Physical description of people.
9. Reporting commands. Expressing preferences and asking about them. Reconstruction of houses.
