Ergonomics

The course familiarizes students with all aspects of the system man-machine-environment and its expression in the course of design production in the context with technical-scientific development, with a special respect to application, safety and hygiene of the system.
The student familiarize themselves with the ergonomical software JACK, which enables simulation of various movements, positions and activities, working with tools and operating machines using constrollers.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

This course provides students with general information about ergonomics as an nterdisciplinary field, about the human, the system of drivers and indicators, about principles of interior design, safety work and the methodical approach to the construction. Acquired knowledge is practised in workshop projects.

Prerequisites

This course has a specific character and it has no link to any similarly oriented course. However a basic overview of human biology, physics /high school level/, statistics and fundamentals of construction /university level/ is assumed.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements: attendance at exercises, handing over assigned corrected projects one day before the examination at the latest. Projects topics and deadlines will be specified during the course.
The exam is held at the end of the semester and it verifies theoretical knowledge acquired in lectures. The form of exam: written test /or verbal exam/.
The student will be able to aquire up to 40 points for projects and tasks, and a further 60 points for the examination. The examination contains a computer test with tasks and answers to choose from. Resulting evaluation will sum up the classifications from the lessons (max 40 points) and the examination (max 60 points). Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The ergonomy course offers the students theoretical information on this interdisciplinary scientific field of knowledge, on human, systems of controllers, basics of interior design as well as on safety. After familiarizing themselves with the unique ergonimical software JACK use the students their knowledge on modeling situations concerning using and manipulating tools and machines.
The goal of this course is gaining knowledge enabling creative work in the field of industrial design as well as knowledge needed for designing and modernizing industrial products and working space. The task of this course is teaching the students to use the anthropocentric approach in designers work.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in exercises is controlled. The attendance in lectures is not controlled but it is recommended. Missed exercises are compensated according to the agreement with a lecturer (e.g. a compensatory project is assigned).
