Fundamentals of Drawing

FSI-YKAAcad. year: 2011/2012

This course provides students (on the basis of their talent) with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge that is necessary for drawing. It is concerned with drawing geometrical solids using a model.
The course is determined to students who will take talent exam on speciality "Industrial design". Its completion is a necessary condition for the following course "Geometric Objects Drawing" in the 2nd year of studies. At the end of the semester the selection process /talent exam/ is held for students who are interested in the speciality "Industrial design".

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students acquire the basic knowledge of drawing. Practise in geometry elements drawing represents the first step in mastering skills and acquiring of basic knowledge of a model drawing.

Prerequisites

Students are assumed to have basic knowledge from the high school without art orientation. The interest of students in the course together with the potential of the development in the selected branch is very important. The course is determined to students who will take talent exam on speciality "Industrial design".

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: Attendance at exercises, meeting assigned projects deadlines.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on tasks (drawings). In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
The quality of the output and the attendance to the course will be taken in account when evaluating the talent examination to the Industrial Design in Machinery branch.

Aims

The aim is to familiarize students with drawing such as the basic type of visualization. Practical exercises focus on the relationship between the paper, instrument, format and basic expressive tools of the designing process. The aim is the development of students` creative skills.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in education is controlled. Missed lessons are compensated by settle with a lecturer or it is resolve with the compensatory project. The excuse of absence is possible only due to serious reasons, e.g. illness. In case of unexcused absence, course-unit credits do not have to be awarded. The total absence greater than 50% (including excused absence) may jeopardise awarding the credit.
Absolving the course (Graded course-unit credit) is a requirement for acceptance to the Industrial Design in Machinery branch.
