General education in the school curricullum - a mere theory, or a practical necessity?

České školství se ocitá v proměnách. Vlivem prudkých demokratických společenských změn i školských reforem uplynulých let se mění vzdělávací i výchovný rámec škol. Důraz je kladen na decentralizaci, rozrůzněnost a koncepci tzv. „učící se organizace“, která přijímá plnou odpovědnost za výsledky vzdělávání a která je schopna „skládat účty“ ze své práce. Vzrůstá potřeba měnit profil absolventa. V souvislosti s tím sílí akcent na rozvoj všech klíčových kompetencí, které vybaví absolventy všemi potřebnými vědomostmi, dovednostmi a návyky k tomu, aby mohli obstát v ostré konkurenci, náročných požadavcích doby a aby zvládli tempo společensko-profesního života po odborné i lidské stránce. Ukazuje se, že všestranný rozvoj absolventů je v současnosti nezbytný. Ani odborné školy nesmějí podceňovat rozvoj těch kompetencí, které rozvíjejí soft skills, jazykovou vybavenost a společenskovědní teoretickou orientaci s ohledem praktické uplatnění. Vzájemná vazba mezi teorií a praxí je mimořádně důležitá. Analýza dovedností pro praxi vytváří potřebu odpovídajícího teoretického vzdělání a naopak teoretické vzdělávání by mělo vést k praktickému uplatnění. Symbióza a provázanost všestranného osobnostního rozvoje absolventa v teorii i praxi se v současnosti stává hybným prvkem realizace kurikula.

The Czech educational system has entered a time of change. The education and upbringing of students at schools is transforming under the influence of recent rapid democratic social changes and educational reforms. Emphasis is being placed on decentralization, diversity and the concept of a so-called 'self-educating organization' that takes total responsibility for the results of its educational program and which is capable of 'accounting for' its work. There is a growing need to change the typical graduate profile. In connection with this, the importance is rising of the development of all key competencies that equip graduates with all of the knowledge, skills and habits they need to survive the intense competition and high demands of our times, and to manage the high tempo of social and professional life from both the specialized and human perspective. It has become apparent that today's graduates need to develop their skills in a comprehensive, global manner. Not even specialized schools can afford to underestimate the development of those competencies that enable the improvement of soft skills, language abilities and a social science-based theoretical orientation from the perspective of practical application. The mutual links between theory and practice are exceptionally important. Analysis of the applied skills needed in practice demonstrates the need for corresponding theoretical education and, simultaneously, theoretical education should lead to practical applications. The symbiosis and cohesion of the holistic personal development of graduates in theory and in practice has today become a crucial element in the creation of curriculum.
