Original Abstract

This paper summarizes results achieved during a study of thermal removal of polymer binder containing low-molecular-weight components from ceramic injection mouldings. The effect of the shape and size of bodies and different debinding conditions on binder removal was examined. The investigation was primarily focused on the beginning of binder removal when low-molecular-weight components were removed. The possibility to increase the rate of binder removal in this region is discussed. Evolution of porosity in debinding bodies and related binder redistribution was investigated. The formation of defects due to non-uniform binder removal was described and requirements for their elimination were proposed.
