The common properties of VLIW digital signal processors and the ensuing consequences for optimizing the programs for these digital signal processors are given. The properties are illustrated on two types of digital signal processor, namely VelociTI and StarCore. Implementation of the discrete convolution algorithm is given as an example of the program.
