Original Abstract

The paper presents the results of the computational modelling of the stress and reliability of the ceramic head of the total hip joint endoprosthesis under ISO 7206-5 loading. Endoprosthesis consists of the two main parts – ceramic head and the steel stem. The joint of these two parts is realised by the self-locking cone and the manufacturing inaccuracies of these cones significantly influence the tensile stresses in the head and head’s failure probability. The manufacturing inaccuracies were measured on 3D measuring device, stress in the analysed system is calculated using FEM system ANSYS and the head’s reliability calculation is based in the Weibull weakest link theory.
