Original Abstract

Cyclic deformation response and low cycle fatigue behaviour of bare and pre-corroded magnesium alloy AZ31 was studied under stress amplitude control. Pre-corroded specimens had been exposed to spray of 5 % solution of sodium chloride for 480 and 1000 hours. Fatigue limit drops from 52.1 Mpa to 47.5 MPa (480 hrs) and 38.4 (1000 hrs). Fatigue life decrease due to corrosion damage is pronounced at loww stress amplitudes, whereas the durability attained at higher amplitudes is practically the same.
