Original Abstract

Interactions between hyaluronan (HyA) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) were investigated by means of titration method. Two various HyA samples were used (molecular weights: 70-90 kDa and 1750-2000 kDa) in form of their 0,1% (wt.) aqueous solutions. A typical break on titration curves was observed in case of HyA titration by CTAB. The break, corresponding with formation of CTAB-HyA aggregates, shifted to lower CTAB concentration with decreasing HyA molecular weight. However, the saturation of HyA could not be achieved by reason of phase separation. The decrease of CTAB concentration in presence of HyA (in comparison with measured CTAB concentration in water) is caused by interaction of HyA with CTAB in form of monomer.
