This contribution summarizes the results that have been obtained in our laboratory on the system hyaluronan-cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CATB) using the methods of fluorescence probes. Formation of hydrophobic domains from surfactant molecules is affected by hyaluronan concentration and not by its molecular weight. Only at very low hyaluronan and CTAB concentrations complexes are formed which do not macroscopically phase separate.
