Original Abstract

Possible ways to reduce production of harmful emissions in case of gas fuel combustion are described. We have focused on low-NOX burners operation in relation to process parameters, type of fuel and especially the design of burners. Two types of burner, i.e. one with fuel staging and a dual one were installed into experimental facility and important parameters were measured. Using dual burner represents an important contribution to emissions and fuel cost reduction in various industrial applications. One of them is demonstrated in this paper. A special burner has been developed for use in process for thermal treatment of waste sludge in a large pulp mill. Natural gas was substituted by waste gas from nearby closed coal mines (mining gas). This gas contains approximately 50% of methane and 40% of nitrogen. Research and development of burners like these is shown including mathematical modelling providing us with a possibility to predict various parameters including NOX emissions concentration.
