Budovy v České republice jsou dnes charakterizovány nedobrým technickým stavem s nevyhovujícími tepelně technickými vlastnostmi s vysokou energetickou náročností provozu. Celková spotřeba energie českých budov činí 300 až 330 PJ (1 PJ = 1015 J). Možné reálné úspory energie, při zajištění energeticky vědomé modernizace budov, lze předpokládat ve výši až 120 PJ. Celkové využití tohoto potenciálu není snadné, vyžaduje cílený přístup, který spočívá v účelné integraci vedoucí k úsporám energie. Na podkladě energetického auditu objektu a vymezení potenciálu energetických úspor se využívá princip návrhu takových úprav, při kterých dochází k současnému morálnímu i fyzickému zhodnocení stavby a jejího technického vybavení. Řešení musí být energeticky vědomé, kdy komplexní přístup a použitá opatření přinášejí nižší spotřebu energie a tím i nižší provozní náklady.

At the present time, buildings in the Czech Republic are characterised by a rather bad technical condition, inadequate thermal insulating properties and high energy demands. The total energy consumption of buildings in the Czech Republic is estimated at 300 to 330 PJ (1 PJ = 1015 J). The potential energy savings to be attained by energy-conscious modernisation of buildings are supposed to amount up to 120 PJ. It is not easy to make full use of this potential; it requires a systematic integrated approach leading to energy savings. Based on energy audit of building and on the definition of the potential energy savings, modifications have been designed enabling both moral and physical valorisation of the building and its technical equipment. The solution has to be energy-conscious whereby the comprehensive approach and the measures taken bring about lower energy consumption and, consequently, lower operation costs.
