Original Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis of a wide-band low-noise preamplifier of an atmospheric optical link receiver. The sources of electrical noise and the noise model for the avalanche photodiode (APD) are described. The paper presents an equivalent circuit that accurately describes the noise and frequency performance of an APD connected to an amplifier and formulas for the output signal and noise level computation. The relations derived allow us to determine the influence of important parameters such as APD junction capacitance, serial resistance, amplifier input and feedback impedance on receiver noise and frequency performance.
