Original Abstract

In mature GSM and UMTS networks, interference from other mobiles limits throughput or capacity. In the uplink direction where normally several antennas are available (antenna diversity), interference can be reduced by intelligently combining the received signals (spatial selection). In cases where only one receiving antenna is available, signal processing uses an approach similar to the SAIC (Single Antenna Interference Cancellation) used by MSs. Suitable algorithm should be found out for interference cancellation and simulated in MatLab. The performance of the algorithm will depend on the combination of the modulation scheme of the wanted signal and the interferer, as well as on the interferer scenario (relative levels of the interferers).
