Original Abstract

In their paper, the authors concern themselves with the definition of the contemporary management paradigm. The present day situation is characterized by its global, information and knowledge focus. Competitiveness in the processing industry is the cornerstone of the EU strategy in the area of sustainable development. Sustainable development can be defined as better quality of life for everybody today, as well as for future generations. It is a vision of progress that combines together the economic, environmental and social pillars. The sustainable development and the strategy concept are referred to as the sustainable development strategy. Progress aimed at achieving full sustainability presumes that balanced advancement will take place in all of these pillars. Neglecting one of the pillars would only mean that the overall objective would not be attained. Competition is thus a necessary part of a successful strategy of sustainability. The primary responsibility for achieving competitiveness will be shouldered by undertakings, which, by implementing corporate responsibilities in the broad sense, also contribute to priorities in the areas of social care and the environment. The development is connected with the importance of the quality and quantity of knowledge the economic activity depends on. From theoretical findings it follows that managing a company is a very complicated and multifaceted process determined by the fact that a company itself is a complex organism whose individual parts engaged in different activities cannot function without some degree of planning, coordination, stimulation, control and decision-making. Management definitions can basically be divided into three groups, according to their definitions that emphasize managing people, functions performed by managers, the subject matter of study and its purpose. Taking the above management definitions in the aggregate, management is viewed as a "coherent set of proven approaches, opinions, experience, recommendations and methods that managers use to perform specific activities (manager's functions) that are necessary for the organisation to accomplish its objectives." Corporate objectives should be mutually complementary, but they can also be mutually contradictory (e.g. growing market share, reduction of costs, increasing labour productivity, developing new products, improving relations among suppliers, improving social relations within the company, improving quality of products and services, environmentally-friendly products, etc). The aim of this paper is to outline the management paradigm valid at the present time.
