Original Abstract

This contribution presents a speckle suppression method for medical ultrasound images. It consists of four steps. In the first step an original image is pre-processed with an adaptive median filter. This is the first part of the image, the second part is obtained by subtracting the first part from the original image. In the second step these two parts are transformed into a wavelet domain by a nonseparable wavelet transform using quincunx lattice. These two sets of coefficients are then processed by a soft thresholding method. In the last step the thresholded parts are transformed back into a space domain and finally they are added together. Speckle noise is reduced while sharp details are almost fully preserved.
