Original Abstract

The article deals with comparison of using the most suitable transmission media for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service in package Triple-Play at a distance of 200 m. It describes the service and its requirements on an access network. If necessary to connect two points at these distances, comparison of using FSO (Free-Space-Optics) data link and possibility to use optic fiber with length 300 m are given. Group of parameters defined in RFC 2544, which will lead to comparison of the suitability of using transmission media, is measured for both types of connection with AXS-200/850. Influence of increasing atmospheric attenuation on BER (Bit-Error-Rate) and throughput is described as well. Based on long-term measurement, values of BER and availability of the data link are derived.
