Original Abstract

The post-discharge in pure nitrogen is a subject of many studies during the last fifty years. The huge sets of experimental as well as theoretical works have been published. These works were focused mainly on the pure nitrogen post-discharge in various configurations. Only a few works published during the last years were devoted for the influence of various impurities and traces on the post-discharge kinetics. Besides the impurities containing oxygen and carbon, the influence of some metallic atoms was observed. The presented work shows our results obtained in the pure nitrogen containing vapors of mercury, zinc, molybdenum, plumb and tin. The emission of atomic lines in the active discharge was observed in all these cases but some of the metallic lines were observed even during the post-discharge period up to about 60 ms. The kinetic models of post-discharge show that there are some possible energy transfer reactions leading to the atomic states excitation during the post discharge. The vibrationally excited nitrogen ground state molecules, that are strongly metastable, are probably the main energetic source for these excitations. Besides the emission of metallic lines also emission of nitrogen bands is changed. The full understanding of all the mechanisms is unknown up to now.
