Original Abstract

This paper is focused on the quality of service (QoS) assurance in data networks and especially on the DiffServ technology which is one of the most used nowadays. This QoS method classifies network traffic into the several classes and then the specific priorities of packet handling are assigned to these classes. Therefore it is possible to advantage some type of network traffic before others and to guarantee a required quality of a service to this traffic type. It is convenient to make a simulation before implementation of the most network technologies. The simulation enables finding and resolving any mistakes or problems of this technology before its realization in the real network. The Opnet Modeler is one of the professional simulation environments and enables executing extensive simulations and tests of most of the network technologies and services. Therefore this application was used for the simulation of data network with the DiffServ technology. The simulation results and the final evaluation are presented at the end of this paper.
