Original Abstract

This paper describes a single output, high-amperage current pulse generator designed for the purpose of magnetizing large coils used in experimental magnetic therapy tests. Because the generator was expected to generate trapezoid shaped pulses only, its internal current source was constructed using switching method instead of classical linear voltage controlled current source approach. This significantly increased overall efficiency of the generator and reduced heat dissipation in active elements. A full bridge composed of IGBT power transistors was used to drive the application coil and shape the output current. The generator allows user change of most pulse parameters such as amplitude and period and is equipped with an intuitive user interface with a dot matrix LCD display.
