Original Abstract

The paper deals with a method for the solution of transient phenomena on multiconductor transmission lines (MTL) modeled by lumped-parameter networks in the form of a cascade connection of generalized PI networks. The MTL model can be driven in arbitrary nodes, the nonzero initial conditions can also be incorporated. After developing state-variable equations to be solved the Matlab language is used to get voltage and/or current distributions along the MTL wires. Specially direct time domain solution based on a convolution integral evaluation and the Laplace transform approach will be compared as for their computational efficiency. All computations utilize sparse matrices to save computer memory and the CPU time significantly.
