Original Abstract

Humic acids as ubiquitous material, responsible for self-detoxification of soils and sediments, provide high potential for production of HA-based artificial remediation agents. For this purpose the way of pollutant immobilization by humic substances must be clearly understood. Many papers concerning sorption ability of solid humic acids towards different groups of pollutants have been published. In recent papers of presenting authors, the use of humic acids in form of gel was introduced as a new approach how the transport of pollutants in natural humic environments can be studied. The gel form of HA is easy to prepare, suitable for the exploration of transport phenomena and mainly simulates the natural conditions, because HA are usually found in highly humid environments (water sediments, peat etc.) and thus in the swollen form. This contribution is focused on the determination of diffusivity of Cu2+ ions in humic gel. Three different diffusion models were used in order to calculate the effective value of diffusion coefficient: Half-plug method, In- diffusion from constant source media and Through- diffusion with constant concentration in reservoirs. Obtained values of Deff are compared and their usability in following diffusion experiments is discussed.
