Original Abstract

Effect of adding silica nanoparticles on deformation response and morphology of low-density and high-density polyethylenes (HDPE, LDPE) was investigated. Polyethylene nanocomposites were prepared via mixing of polyethylene with silica nanoparticles in hot xylene solution under intensive mechanical stirring in the ultrasonic field. Dried nanocomposite samples were compression molded into sheets and the specimens were cut out of the sheets using a bench press. The nanocomposite viscoelastic response was investigated employing the dynamic-mechanical thermal spectroscopy measurements. Additionally, tensile stress-strain tests, differential scanning calorimetry, optical microscopy and density measurements were carried out to characterize deformation response and to determine the morphology of the PE/silica nanocomposites.
