Original Abstract

In breast cancer diagnosis, standard ultrasound B-mode examination provides useful additional diagnostic information. However, interpretation of ultrasound images is very difficult because of poor spatial resolution, low contrast and the presence of speckles. In breast-tissue imaging, ultrasound transmission tomography is an alternative with potentially higher image quality. Although it has been researched for several decades, so far it has not been developed to a clinically applicable state. In this contribution, the current state of our research in attenuation imaging using ultrasound transmission tomography is described. Especially, the regularized image reconstruction is presented.

Czech abstract

Standardní ultrazvukové zobrazení v B-módu je dnes dodatečnou zobrazovací metodou v diagnostice rakoviny prsu. Interpretace zobrazovaných struktur je zde obtížná v důsledku nízké prostorové rozlišovací schopnosti, nízkému kontrastu a přítomnosti strukturního šumu, tzv. speklí. Průzvučná ultrazvuková tomografie může být v mamografii alternativou k zobrazení v B-módu, s potenciálně vyšší kvalitou obrazu v důsledku snímání objektu z mnoha stran. Tento příspěvek popisuje současný stav našeho projektu zobrazování útlumových map pomocí této modality.
